I am beginning to believe that the best business model is equal parts of Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) and Radical Game-Changing Innovation. This post falls into the Kaizen bucket.
Our Hardware Configurator, is almost 5 years old now. So, I suppose I will be sending off to school in the Fall. We've made a couple of tweaks to it recently that I wanted to share.
1. Series-by-Function. A while back, we implemented Search-by-Item to help users quickly find a product that is in a series with a bunch of other items. We've now expanded this to allow users to search for a Function. So, for example, you can type "L9453" into the search box...and then double-click the result. The Configurator will be setup for the "L" series & "L9453" Function (2-birds, 1-stone). It's a shortcut I think everyone can use.
2. Edit Mode Compare - while editing a product we now show the Original Product in a light-green box on the top, and the new product in a light-yellow box on the bottom. When you hit Save & Exit...it will ask you to confirm your changes. This is especially helpful when looping thru Stock or Non-Stock updates where catalog nomenclature has changed. You can be sure that the ProductName is exactly as it should be, before saving.
3. New! Logic-Based auto-selector. We are now leveraging our Logic rules even more. As you select items. If dependent "child" Attributes are invalid they will be set to Null(Empty). Also - if your change results in a child Attribute having 1-and-only-1 valid choice, that choice will be made for you automatically
Enjoy!
